Des Moines Zoo

We headed to Des Moines for the weekend to visit some friends, Todd and Bridgit and their 2 boys, Calvin and Carson. Saturday morning we headed up there. We enjoyed a BBQ Saturday night and caught up with Jim and Tammy and their kids Riley and Davis. All the kids had fun running and playing all evening. They did a lot of laughing and giggling, and got along very well. Sunday morning we went to the Zoo. It was a great time for the kids. Lauren is waiting for her turn to ride the train. She loved riding the red train. She said it was her favorite part of the Zoo.

Watching and feeding the fish.
On the train. When we tell Lauren to smile she gets this big cheesy fake smile usually, but this is a good one!

Lauren loves to feed the animals. She could have stayed here the whole day. She was asleep in the car with in 10 minutes and slept half the trip back home! We had a great weekend in Des Moines.

Zoe and Lauren

The best of friends. Zoe puts up with a lot from Lauren!

Another fun day outside

I sat and read a magazine while Lauren played in the hose. She got herself wet, sprayed Zoe several times and even watered the swingset! I figured she would get cold but she didn't. She was having too much fun!

A hot afternoon, but cool in the pool!

Since Lauren only took a 20 minute nap on the way home, we had all afternoon to play. We decided to get the pool out for the year. We filled it up and then let it sit in the sun for about an hour to heat up. Kids don't care how cold the water is anyway. Lauren had a great time playing in the water and all over the back yard in her swimsuit. We played on the swingset, went down the slide, and played catch with Zoe.
I know I probably should not let her jump out of the pool, and I told her to stop after I got this picture!

Deana Rose Farmstead

Since Lauren woke up at 6:40 on a Saturday morning we decided we had a long day ahead of us so we headed out to Deana Rose for the morning. Lauren had so much fun and Mark and I had so much fun watching her get excited about seeing all the animals. She loved feeding the goats, which surprised us because she used to be so timid, but not anymore! She also enjoyed watching the pigs. They were very cute and very muddy. Lauren said "eww, piggy's dirty."

She posed in front of Pippi the cow for us to take several pictures. She enjoyed playing in the barn and seeing all the calfs. There was also a black cat in the barn that Lauren played with.
When we headed home Lauren fell asleep. Of course we only got a 20 minute nap out of her for the whole day, but that is ok. We had a fun morning!

Go to Zoo Today?

Each day at some point in the day Lauren asks us "Go to zoo today?" She has a very serious look on her face each time. Ever since we went to the Omaha Zoo about a month ago she has wanted to go back. She says "See elephants, monkeys, fishes, giraffes." It breaks my heart to say each day "not today honey." We are heading to Des Moines for Memorial Day weekend and did you know they have a Zoo! We are also heading to St. Louis for a few days the first week of June so we have lots of Zoo trips coming up. Lauren should be very excited!

Happy Mother's Day!

Mother's Day was fun at our house. We went to church in the morning all dressed up in our Easter dress again. Mark taught Lauren how to say "Happy Mother's Day" and so that is what I got to hear all day which just melts my heart. In the afternoon Gramps, Nana, Mama, Aunt Jen, Uncle Steve and Baby Claire came over for a BBQ. Everyone brought something and Mark grilled out so no one had to cook a big meal!
Lauren did not take a very good nap. She was so excited for everyone to come over. She waited by the door for a long time for everyone!

Gramps played cards with Lauren while Mama taught the rest of us a new card game.

Trying to get a toddler and a baby to look at the camera and smile is quite a challenge. We got a few good ones and there were three of us taking pictures. As you can see they are not looking at my camera! Lauren loves to play with her cousin Claire. I know she is going to be a great big sister. She loves to help out with Claire all the time!

I have to include a picture of Lauren and Zoe. That dog puts up with so much from Lauren. Lauren loves to play with Zoe. As you can see Zoe does not look very happy here as Lauren lays on her.

Meet me at the Playground

This was a Parents as Teachers event in Lee's Summit on Friday. I took the day off to take Lauren. Since it was so cold and windy out they moved the event inside for the kids to play. The main attraction is getting to ride a yellow school bus. If you know Lauren, you know how much she loves to see the yellow buses. Each morning when I take her to daycare they are all parked at the CVS and Walgreens in between school runs and she gets so excited every morning to see them. She says "yea, yellow buses!" She claps and smiles and starts counting them. Every morning she does this. She is also able to spot a yellow bus anywhere in the city. Whenever we are out running errands she sees yellow buses long before I do. One of her friends from daycare was also at the event. They were able to play and I was able to visit with her mom. We had a lot of fun and it was a great way to spend the morning, free entertainment for her!
