Lauren's actual birthday was Wednesday the 6th. She was thrilled to take cupcakes to school but very nervous. She was so worried about how she was going to carry them on the van, keep track of them at late start Wednesday activities (school starts one hour later every Wednesday, so she goes to the library, computer room, gym, etc....) and she was so worried about saying her name on the loud speaker the morning of her birthday in front of the whole school. So much drama the night before her birthday...oh my. So, we agreed that Mommy would take the cupcakes to school (before school started) and get to work a few minutes late. Mommy would talk to the principal of the school and tell her Lauren only wanted the Happy Birthday pencil from the office and not to say her name on the speaker. Since she was so worried about all of this we decided to let Lauren open one gift before school. Plus, I had her door decorated with streamers and balloons when she woke up! She loved it.

Sorry Addison, we cut you out of the picture. Addison's eyes were closed in every picture. The flash seems to get her every time.
I decided to keep the gifts simple this year. Lauren recently passed level 3 swimming and is ready for level 4 which means she will need goggles. We let her open those before school!
After school and work we went to 54th Street Bar and Grill for dinner where Lauren insisted on working on her homework while waiting for her food to come out. We hit Orange Leaf on the way home (since Nana brought Lauren a gift card to Orange Leaf) and finally got home to open presents.
Lauren has wanted this slushie maker for months. She sees commercials for it on TV. She was so excited.
Funyuns. Yes, I bought her Funyuns for her birthday and she thought that was just the craziest thing. Every time Lauren comes down to the hospital to have lunch with me she gets Funyuns and a salad. Every time.
Her big present was this bike and she was so surprised and excited.
She opened up the helmet first, then slowly realized there might be a bike along with it.
We had to go out and ride it...besides it was close to 60 degrees outside.
She did awesome on the bike. I am sure we can get those training wheels off this summer. It will just take some confidence building, and some grass.
I also got her these outfits from Justice. They are just her style. She was worn 2 of the shirts already. I am sure she will wear them over and over and over again. We also got her the Diary of a Wimpy Kid Journal that she really wanted around Christmas time....good things come to those who wait.
So we kept it pretty simple and I think Lauren had a great birthday (for the most part.) There were a few bad decisions made, a little sassiness going on, and some whining and crying that lead to her saying "this is the worst birthday ever" only for her to wake up the next morning, give me a hug, tell me she loved me and that she had a good birthday. She never holds a grudge (thankfully.) I figured we had to keep it real here. Life at 7, going on 17. My, oh, My.
Next up, the big sleepover birthday party with friends, and a celebration with family. We have a busy weekend ahead of us.
