School

This was my conversation with Lauren tonight when Mark got home with the girls:

Me:  Lauren, how was school today?

Lauren:  Horrible

Me:(  Thinking....uh oh...what did she do???  Get in trouble....oh no)

Me:  What do you mean it was horrible?

Lauren:  I did not learn anything.  All I did was play all day.  I need to learn something.

Me:  (Totally stumped with nothing to say...I hope this excitement for school continues for a long time.)

I have said all along...what a great kid!

Meet The Teacher Night

So I have never shared the pictures from Meet the Teacher Night.  It was a lot of fun.  Lauren was SO excited and she has been since school started.  She LOVES Kindergarten.  She comes home each night and fills me in on the day...and I LOVE that.  She gets her folder out of her backpack and shows Mark and I all the papers, things that need to be signed, homework and art projects.  She is very responsible (for now anyway...lets hope it lasts!)

Rain boots...in the middle of summer.  Not a battle I am going to fight!

So I have to admit that this got me a little choked up.  Lauren's name on the bulletin board outside her classroom with her teacher's name on it.  It all became so real at that very second.  But it has been an incredible journey these past 2 weeks.  We are happy with her teacher, Lauren seems to love each day at school, and we are looking forward to several school events in the next several weeks.

Her teacher, Mrs. Fiedler, had a scavenger hunt around the classroom to put the school supplies away.  (I am not sure what Addison is doing in this picture!)

Lauren and Mrs. Fiedler.

After we hung out in the classroom for a while we headed to the gym for some more information.  Addison was right behind Lauren the whole way...and Lauren tolerated it.  She adores Addison and Addison adores her.

Another favorite picture of Lauren from the first day.

Always Fun

So this weekend was the CMH family picnic out at the Agricultural Hall of Fame....way out by the Legends and the race track.  We go every year ( 2010, 2009, 2008) and we always have fun.  It seems like every other year it falls on Mark's fantasy football draft, and that was the case this year.  So it was girls weekend for us!  We had a great weekend.
This monkey shirt is her favorite.  Whenever it is clean she wants to wear it.  She loves monkeys so much that we are having a monkey birthday for her 3rd birthday party (yes, I am already thinking about that.  It is like 6 weeks away!!!)

Lauren was a trooper riding the train by herself.  She loved it.

Addison and I sat right in front of her.  We rode it twice, before it got really crowded.

The sno cones were a hit (like always) and a dripping mess (like always) but it doesn't matter.  The girls love all the free treats out here.  Although there was no cotton candy this year, which was a disappointment for Lauren.

Big slides and bounce houses.

Face painting, of course.

and a monkey (of course)

Ice cream sandwiches (they just had lunch!)

Race cars and popcorn before we left.  The girls love watching the cars race around this little track, and this year they decided to race themselves.  Both girls tried to race, although our car only made it around the track 2 or 3 times, the girls had fun.

Saturday night we headed to Steak and Shake for dinner.  I don't really know why, but Lauren has been asking to go for several weeks now.  I think her friend Killian talks about it!  It was actually pretty good, and the girls had a good time and enjoyed a M&M shake for dessert.

Mark got home Sunday before naps and the girls were so excited to see him.  They really missed him (and he was only gone for a little over 24 hours.)  Lauren kept saying she had fun all weekend (at the picnic, at Steak and Shake) but she said it would be more fun if "Daddy was here."  She is so sweet.

We topped the weekend off making mud pies in my flower pots (of dead flowers at this point.)  It was so nice out Sunday afternoon that I set up the little pools and the sprinkler for the girls and sat outside and watched them play.  One more week until the unofficial end of summer.  We are looking forward to a nice long Labor Day weekend.

Consignment Sale

Remember my garage sale back in June?  Well I made a ton of money and got rid of a lot (almost everything) of baby stuff.  The one thing that did not sell very well was clothes.  Well, they probably sold well, I just had an abundance of little girl clothes so I had a ton left still.  After talking to a few friends I decided to do a local consignment sale, Just Between Friends, to get rid of the rest of the clothes.  This was a HUGE process and I have been working on this almost every night since the middle of July.  Tonight I will load up my car and take all the items to the sale tomorrow!  I hope to make another $300-$400!
The first step was to sort through all the clothes.  When I put them away from the garage sale I separated them into fall/winter and spring/summer.  So I had to pull the fall/winter totes.  Then I had to separate all the clothes into sizes.  I still had a lot of 12-18 and 18-24 month sizes.

Next was hangers.  Every item has to be put on a hanger, and the hanger has to be turned a certain way for the sale.

Oh, and every piece of clothing has to be pinned onto the hangers.  I had 187 items.  I know this because you have to create tags for every item.

The tags included by consigner number, a description of the item on the hanger, size and price.  Each item has to be put into the system, and then printed up onto cardstock.  Not just plain paper...cardstock.

After you have hung up each item, pinned it to the hanger, typed in the label, and printed the label you are ready to cut the labels and then pin them onto the clothes.

These are piles of clothes waiting to be labeled.  This has overtaken my basement for about 6 weeks now and I am so ready to load everything in the car and clear out my basement.  I will keep you posted on my profits from the sale!

Nice Lazy Weekend

We had absolutely nothing planned this weekend and it was great.  We did some things around the house Saturday morning, ended up going to Paradise Park Saturday afternoon, had game night Saturday night, church on Sunday and several errands.
There was an Estate Sale on our street Saturday morning.  It was very busy with lots of cars.  Mark and I were outside doing yard work, and apparently Lauren decided to have a garage sale of her own.  She started dragging several things out of the house before I realized what she was doing.

This was her sign for the sale.  She sat in the grass holding a sign that said "Open" (that she wrote and spelled on her own) and yelled "garage sale" to all the cars passing by.  It was pretty cute.  And Addison, well she did whatever Lauren did!

Addison was a big helper this weekend with laundry.  She thinks it is fun!

Lauren decided it would be fun to dance around in her rain boots, shirt only (no pants) and sing her new song "The Rules of the Classroom."  It is pretty cute.  It talks about keeping your hands and feet to yourself, short voices inside and tall voices outside.  Now imagine her rapping to this.  It was hilarious.

She also had Hannah Montana playing in the background.

They put on quite a show.  Their faces are painted from Paradise Park.

Oh, and Mark got a new toy.  Something he has been researching for months.  Just in time for football.  This TV has it all.  I think I might like it too!

Weekend Fun with Cousins

So this was last weekend when Mark's Sister came to town with her family.  I never got around to getting the pictures up, mainly because Kindergarten is much more of a priority!
We headed to an indoor jumpy place in the afternoon and hung out there for a few hours.  Everyone had a lot of fun.

Sunday the girls had fun playing outside.  It was a beautiful morning.

Lauren loves to play beauty salon with all her barbies and fairies.  Her and Emma decided to move the salon outside.  Complete with water spray bottle, detangler, and the brushes I use for the girls hair each morning.

Addison did not participate in much of the hair fixing, only the drinking of the water...out of the spray bottle!

We had a great weekend with Chris, Jeff, Emma and Rae Ann.  We are so glad they came down to visit.  The girls had a blast.

1st Day in Pictures

Gorgeous.  Love. This. Girl.

Waiting for Daddy to cook the french toast.  Lauren was up shortly after 6 ready for school.

I love what she picked out for the first day.

And she loved to twirl in this skirt.

We have to take a picture with the lunch box and back pack right?  And no, I did not color coordinate her whole outfit.   She did that on her own.

Addison was not in the mood for pictures, or wait was she? or maybe not?  Who knows....I can't keep up with this wild (almost) 3 year old who woke up on the WRONG side of the bed today but insisted on having her picture taken with Lauren (but not smiling.)

Waiting outside her classroom to go in.

The teacher, Mrs. Fiedler said "wave goodbye to Mommy and Daddy."

And off she goes, does not look back, does not cry, does not even hesitate.  We are so proud.  She has really grown the last few years into a very confident little girl.

I snuck in a snapped a few pictures of her after she went in.  Such a good kid.  She loves to color.

Orange Leaf.  Our new first-day-of-school tradition.  Addison was in a much better mood.

Lauren had to call her friend Seth (who goes to Greenwood) to tell him about her first day.  Listening to her talk to Seth, Aunt Jen and Nana I was able to learn all about her day.  It started with Calendar time, then lunch and then recess.  Then PE class.  She did jumping jacks, hula hoop, and rolled like a snake.  Lauren told me gym was again on Monday (every 3 days) and that she would have to wear tennis shoes.  After gym she to got to go outside again, then she ate snack, in the dark, with the music playing, and then took a nap on the carpet.  Her teacher woke her up and then she took the Child Prodigy van back to daycare.  A 6th grader helped her find the van after school.

The second day (today) sounded interesting as well.  She gets to ride the Child Prodigy van to school.  Her and Ms. Fayjan are the only ones in the van at first.  Today she got to be the door holder, but she really wants to be the person who get to take the papers to the cafeteria and the office.  She bought her lunch at school today (she took it yesterday and wants to take it again tomorrow) and got to pick out whatever she wants for lunch and best of all she said "it is free.  You don't have to have any money."  Hmmm...I guess she does not get the point of the 7 digit code that she has to press into the system to pay for her lunch.  But, I am impressed because she already knows the 7 digit code.  She learned it in 2 days.  Art class was today and her favorite color is green (really, that is news to me.)  She took a nap on the floor again, when it was quite time and music was playing for snacks.  Oh and she saw her friend Erin on the playground.  And she made a new friend, a girl, but forgot her name.  I asked her if she made any new friends that were boys...and she said "No, Killian and Seth are my only boy friends."  I told you...the cream of the crop.

I am loving Kindergarten so far, and so is Lauren.
