Lauren went on her first Girl Scout camping trip last weekend and we had a lot of fun! It started out pretty wet and muddy since it had rained the last 24 hours, but that did not stop the fun.
Here is her troop when we did a hike on Sunday morning. They are a great group of girls.
When we arrived Saturday afternoon each girl was put into a group to do some chores to get the campground ready for camping (clean the kitchen area, bathroom, check the fire pit, etc...) Lauren took her job very seriously and got to work right away with Ava.
Then she had to find some small sticks for the fire.
And some larger sticks too!
Then it was time to get the sleeping quarters ready and cleaned out.
Lauren and her roommate Cassidy. They are buddies and have know each other for several years from being at the daycare together.
Still working hard and loving every minute of it. This is Lauren's sit upon for the fire.
After snack and before dinner the girls hung out around the camp fire singing and playing games.
Our tents...and the girls checking things out. They did not have to cook dinner, so they were free to play and explore the camp site.
We had spaghetti, bread, and corn on the cob for dinner. It was great!

After dinner Lauren was on clean up crew.

Then it was time for s'mores. I think I ended up having 3! Yummy.
The sunrise the next morning was gorgeous. It got pretty cold that night (41 degrees) but we stayed very warm in our sleeping bags. I woke up several times and my face and head was freezing. Otherwise, I felt great.
These were our tents, so we were not roughing it too much.
The next morning Lauren and Cassidy were up before 6:00...
One of the girls came first thing Sunday morning (because she had a play at the church Saturday night) and her mom brought hot chocolate for all the girls. I was so jealous I did not get one...

Then it was breakfast time. Lauren was on cooking duty this time.
We had donuts...cinnamon and sprinkles...
and bacon and eggs...cooked in a bag, over the fire.
It actually worked, after we moved the bags to the camp fire. We placed them on a pan and put the pan on the fire.
The girls earned several badges when they were there.
After breakfast and clean-up it was time to hike.
It was starting to get warm out and it felt great.
After the hike we had lunch. Hot dogs wrapped in foil, placed in an old OJ carton and put into the fire. The carton burns away, and the hot dog cooks in the foil. Remove carefully with a hot pad and there is lunch!
Overall this was super fun. Lauren absolutely loves Girl Scouts and has had a great year and learned so much about values, rules, respect, self worth and self esteem, safety, and I could go on and on. Girl Scouts is a great program to be involved in and we feel very lucky to find such a great troop and great leader.
